Simple and Soft baby burpcloth tutorial

For this project, you will need:
  •  1/4 yard of flannel
  • basic sewing supplies
To begin, cut two pieces of flannel into rectangles measuring 15" x 9".  I used two coordinating prints but any flannel will do.  Pin the two pieces together with right sides facing.  Leave a 2" gap unpinned.  Sew around the burpcloth using a 1/4" seam allowance.  Leave the 2" gap unsewn.  Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end of the stitching.

Trim the corners, being careful not to cut through any stitching, and turn right side out.  Poke the corners out with a wooden chopstick and iron.  Approximate edges of 2" opening and pin closed.  Sew around the entire burpcloth using a 1/4" seam allowance.

And one baby burpcloth is completed...soft and gentle on baby's skin.  These are easy to make and are sure to be much appreciated by any mom or dad.  They are a great gift to make for a new baby!

Dining Chair pad tutorial

For this tutorial you will need:
  •  1/2 yard of fabric (makes approx 1 chair pad)
  • fusible batting
  • basic sewing supplies

Begin by tracing the top of your dining chair onto a piece of paper.  I taped a piece of newspaper to the chair.
After tracing, cut out and use this as a template for your cushion.  Place this template on top of your fusible batting and cut a piece of batting.  Lay the batting on top of your fabric and cut two pieces about a 1/2" larger on all sides.
You should now have two pieces of fabric and one piece of batting.  Also cut four strips of fabric each measuring 16" x 2".
Measure and iron over 1/4" on each long side of the 16" x 2" strips.  Fold each ironed edge over again.  Each ironed edge should be touching.  Pin.  These will be your dining pad ties.
Sew each tie on the folded edge using an 1/8" seam allowance.  When you reach the end of the strip, turn and iron down the short end using the same seam allowance.  This will be the end that you knot.
Knot the end of the tie that is sewn.
Place fabric pieces right sides together.  Measure where your ties should be placed and pin two ties on each side.  Mine happened to be 2" in from the outer edge...just depends on your dining chair.  Sew all the way around the outside using a 1/2' seam allowance, making sure to backstitch over your ties and leave a 3" gap unsewn for turning.  Turn right side out and tuck precut batting piece inside.  Approximate edges of opening used for turning and pin.  Iron to fuse batting to fabric.
Topstitch around the entire chair pad using a 1/4" seam allowance.

One chair pad is complete.  These would be fun to make for someone as a gift to match their home decor.
